Household Medicine

After arriving in Japan, some students have tendencies to catch colds or become ill due to not being used to the environment, and it can be difficult determining whether over-the-counter medicine in Japan is right for you. We suggest that you bring medicine such as pain reliever or cold medicine from your own country when coming to Japan.

Clothing

Below is a graph of the average high and low temperature throughout the year in Tokyo. Students ought to bring clothing according to the weather at the time of year year they plan to visit Japan. In particular, students coming to Japan in October should bring clothing suitable for cold weather (as the weather drastically changes between fall and winter in Japan) .

Japanese Yen

Depending on student's living conditions and circumstances in Japan, the amount of yen one should bring may vary. Excluding living expenses, we recommend that students bring approximately 100,000 Japanese yens' worth of cash for daily necessities, food, and anything that may become necessary soon after arriving in Japan.

Telephone

Once students have established a bank account, it is possible to contract a cellphone. Depending on the cellphone company, cellphone plans may drastically vary. For example, certain cellphone companies offer student discount rates, along with many other special prices, discounts, and other services. Before contracting a cellphone, please thoroughly look into and compare each cellphone company and find the best plan that suits your desired price and needs.

Electricity and Water

Generally, electricity and water are not included in rent. In order to use electricity and water, students must make and sign a contract with the electric and water company. When making a contract for your apartment, the real estate agents will kindly inform you on how to go about contracting your electric and water.

Bedding, kitchen ware, bowls and plates, etc.

In general, apartments and student dorms are not furnished. If desired, things like beds (certain dormitories do provide beds), futons, refrigerators, microwave ovens, and televisions all must be purchased by the individual.
