Why did you choose to study in Japan?
After my graduation from university in Hong Kong, I was working as a teacher and able to have some saving. Since the price of housing in Hong Kong was unaffordable, I decided to utilize my saving in a more meaningful way. I concluded that I should come to Japan and study here so that I could make my dream come true before I had too many responsibilities in life.
Why did you choose this school?
The deciding factor was that this school was a full time school. It was easier to master Japanese in this school because the length of lesson was sufficient. Besides, it was fascinating that the students in this school managed to achieve high pass rate of N1.
What was the best memory you had to this school?
I was fond of the quirky teachers and classmates. There were teachers who valued group works and oral presentations on one hand and teachers who taught in a dramatic way on the other. My Japanese improved a lot surprisingly when I was just enjoying my study in school every day. I was able to enjoy my time with classmates outside of school as well. The admiration of cherry blossom and fireworks, weekend getaway, gathering dinner after classes and the long line in front of microwave were all precious memories for me.
What is your plan after graduation?
I will continue my education in the Japanese teacher training course in Bunka Institute of Language. Although I haven’t decided what to do after the graduation from Bunka Institute yet because there are many possible paths, I would like to open my own Japanese tutoring classes in Hong Kong in the end.
Do you utilize what you learned in Japan?
Yes. Because I have been helping out the public broadcast bureau in Hong Kong to collect materials, the Japanese culture and the way to write official documents that I learned in this school were highly helpful when I communicated in the field or wrote inquiry letters.
Your message to junior students
I would like to ask our junior students the following question: ‘Why did you choose to study in Japan instead of your own country despite all the efforts?’ I could give my answer first. My reason is the benefit of surrounding oneself in a Japanese speaking environment. It is the best if you can practice what you learned in school right after class, isn’t it?
