    Course Guide

What lead you to want to study in Japan?

I wanted to study in Japan because Japan's nutrition education is very advanced.

What were your reasons for choosing our school?

TIUJ offers biology class in preparation for Japanese schools. Also, TIUJ has lots of information and materials regarding a variety of universities.

Did you find anything in particular shocking or difficult once you actually enrolled in school?

Japanese was a struggle for me. The Japanese you learn from the text book and class differs greatly from natural, every-day spoken Japanese. I struggled learning how to speak natural Japanese.

What’s your best memory in school?

I remember when I enrolled into school in April and the significant build-up of stress as we entered the 2nd semester. There was so much stress; I couldn't study as well as I wanted. However, I was always able to study well after hanging out and spending time with my friends.

What do you do now? Are the things you learned and experienced here at school proving useful in your life now?

I am currently studying to become a nutritionist in the nutritional science school at Japan Women's University. All the Japanese grammar that I learned at TIUJ has proven very helpful and is benefiting my studies here at school.

Could you please provide a message or some advice for future students planning to study abroad in Japan?

Having good level of the Japanese language proficiency is very important. Learning the basics of Japanese is very vital, so please understand that when studying.

After studying here, was there anything about Japan or Japanese people that you found shocking?

Japanese people are very indirect and always use euphemistic phrases when speaking, so sometimes I don't really understand what they mean.

Recently, is there anything about Japan that you are interested in?

There are machines that can tell the age of your skin! I recently saw this at an electronics store and thought it was very interesting.

Please tell us about a place or store you often go to in Japan.

I like Kichijoji. There is a very big public park in Kichijoji that I like going to. Afterwards, I enjoy going to cafes and such.

What is your favorite Japanese word or phrase?

I like the word "niko niko". It's a cute usage of onomatopoeia to express laughter.
