On Friday, May 2, approximately 140 students who joined TIUJ this April participated in an off-campus learning program.
They visited Tokyo International University’s (TIU) Kawagoe Campus and explored the historic streets of Kawagoe city.
Three large TIU buses arrived at Takadanobaba, where the Japanese Language School is located, to pick up the students in the morning .
After about an hour's ride, they reached TIU’s main campus in Kawagoe.
Upon arrival, two students who had graduated from TIUJ in March and are now enrolled in the School of Commerce at TIU guided them around the campus.
During the tour, they visited facilities such as the library, gymnasium, and main auditorium.
Among them, the Japanese Plaza—a bright and spacious space where even university students can continue studying Japanese—especially caught the students’ interest.
After enjoying lunch in one of the student lounges, which was reserved for this event, students experienced traditional uchiwa (Japanese fan) painting.
During lunch, many former TIUJ students who joined TIU this April stopped by and greet their juniors.
Although the rain didn’t let up, the students enjoyed strolling through the historic streets of Kawagoe, often referred to as “Koedo” (Little Edo), guided by Japanese TIU students.
The students enjoyed traditional Japanese sweets on Kashiya Yokocho (Candy Alley) and visited the Kawagoe Festival Museum, where they could see some scenes from traditional Japanese festivals.
Some groups even extended their planned time to fully enjoy the outing.
When summer arrives and they use the uchiwa they made, we hope it brings back fond memories of this day’s experience.
Lastly, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the former TIUJ students who are now enrolled at TIU for their support despite their busy schedules.
We wish all international students a fulfilling and meaningful school life in Japan.
