Our school was established in 1987 as an affiliated school with TIU (Tokyo International University). Organized with a substantial Japanese language education curriculum, since the establishment of our school, we have received positive reviews in and outside of Japan as a school which provides a strong Japanese language foundation for students pursuing further education in Japan. What's more, as a benefit of being a language school affiliated with a university, students here at our school have many opportunities to participate in university festivals, sports events, meet Japanese university students, and many other activities.
Our founding school Tokyo International University was established in 1965. Currently TIU has five schools and 11 departments, and the TIU graduate school has five fields of research. Among the 6300 student body at TIU, there are approximately 770 international students coming from 22 countries throughout the world studying on campus.
Also, we have a campus located next to our sister school Willamette University which is located in the city of Salem, Oregon in the United States. Every year there are approximately 100 Japanese students who participate in the TIUA (Tokyo International University of America) year-long study abroad program. Of course, not only Japanese students, but international students who have enrolled in, and are studying at TIU also participate in the TIUA program as well. Through providing many opportunities for students to take full advantage of their time abroad, we aim to cultivate talented students with broad international perspectives, capable of understanding a variety of different cultures and values.
Studying abroad is the first step at challenging yourself. Meeting and exchanging with people who hold various cultural and social backgrounds is not simply just a means in which one can learn a language and special. It's a chance to deepen your understanding about the country and the country's people. Also, as a benefit through experiencing another country's culture and society, students can reflect back on their own country's culture, systems, values, and knowledge. I believe that disregarding stereotypes and developing the skills to acknowledge other people different from you is the first step to becoming a true member of this international society.
So that students can fulfill all their various purposes while studying in Japan, our school's staff members provide appropriate aid and attentive guidance for anything regarding school and daily life, as well as substantial back-up support for students on proceeding on their paths to accomplish their future goals. Whether you are looking to pursue further education at a Japanese education facility, work in Japan, return to and work in your home country, studying in Japan is a big step forward to fulfilling everyone's future goals and dreams. We hope that you become a talented and successful person in the global society of today.
